Sellers' Moving Check List in Oromocto & Fredericton

This section is designed to assist sellers with steps that should be considered prior to their moving day. It will help to eliminate stress in trying to remember what has to be completed and when.

I have included many items but may have missed others. Be careful when reading this list as every senerio is different.

If you notice that I have not included an item that I should have, feel free to send along an email with your ideas as it would help in assisting other home owners like yourself.

Sellers' Moving Check List

Six weeks before the seller moves

Purge any items that you no longer use

If you need a professional mover, reserve a moving company

If you are moving yourself, have these items on hand: packing paper, boxes, tape, markers, scissors etc. Also reserve a moving truck and a driver, if required

If you are relocating to another province, due to work, save all moving receipts as some may be tax deductible, check the current tax code for requirements

Gather all important documents, such as: medical, financial, birth certificate, schools, passports and insurance records and store them in a safe and accessible place where they will not get accidentally packed and moved by the movers

Remember to obtain additional insurance on any valuables that may not be covered under your current insurance

Contact children's schools for details on transfers

Three weeks before the seller moves

Start packing items that aren't regularly used such as off season clothes, decorations and items in storage areas (garage, attic and closets)

Take proper measures to dispose of hazardous goods as there are some restrictions

Remove any and all debris from inside and out of the premises

Be sure to tag all items which will remain on the property for closing so the movers don't accidentally load it on the truck

Pack a Survival kit and place it in your car now

Once your belongings are removed from the premises you should prepare the home for closing day.

Two or three days before the seller moves

Be available with birth certificate and a photo identification card, in hand, for the signing of your documents, with the lawyer, if you have not done so already.

Have a professional cleaning company come in or if you are self cleaning, consider these areas to clean

All windows to be cleaned along with tracks

All light fixtures

All floors swept and mopped

All rugs, if any, to be vacuumed and shampooed

All walls to be washed, where neccessary
